We visited our first battlefield site on the 12th September. We were able to borrow Ben’s car, a Toyota Surf. We decided to go for a “little” drive as Harry fell asleep in the car. 90 minutes later we arrived at Goose Green, scene of the first land battle in the campaign.
We didn’t have very long to stay, so we called in the “Galley Cafe” for a cup of tea and piece of cake, before heading back. The people there are extremely friendly, and we had to do a double take when visiting the toilet – you leave the cafe, go through their front room, and use their bathroom!
It was very pleasant there, and there was a battered collection of landrovers, all of which are in use. There are no MOT’s on the islands, hence the appearance of some of the vehicles which would be condemned to the scrapyard in the UK.
There are also no driving licence requirements in Camp either....
We’ll be revisiting Goose soon to visit the battlefield properly
